As we await the birth of Jesus at Christmas, we celebrate the season of Advent. It began with a Lessons and Carols celebration held in the chapel on November 30, the first Sunday of Advent. The story of Jesus’ birth was told through readings from the Word of God, Advent hymns and Christmas carols. After each reading, a Resident brought forward a symbol associated with the coming of Christ. Other Residents played the chimes to various carols. At last, the Infant Jesus was brought forward as we sang “Silent Night” and lit candles. Later in the week on December 4, the Residents enjoyed a retreat day given by Fr. Luke Barder, O.P. from the nearby St. Dominic’s Church. Fr. Luke gave the Residents two conferences about Advent waiting and he took time to visit them in their rooms. With joy, we now await the coming of our Savior, the Light of the World!
