Dreams Come True
Laura, a young woman from Montana has finally had her dream come true – that of beginning her journey to becoming a Little Sister of the Poor. Laura initially met the Little Sisters by volunteering in Philadelphia while she participated in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps after completing her Degree in Psychology. She then participated in our ‘Spring into Service’ Program here at the Home. Her interactions and experiences with the Residents, staff and Sisters were the defining moments of her responding to God’s call.
In June, Laura began 6 months of the pre-postulancy encounter in our Home in Palatine, Illinois. Concluding the time of pre-postulancy and after a short stay with her family, Laura decided to continue with the next step of her journey – that of the Postulancy which takes place in Baltimore, Maryland.
Our hearts were filled with joy as we were privileged to once again welcome Laura and her family on January 18. Bishop Stephen Berg, Laura’s uncle and the Bishop of the Diocese of Pueblo was the principal celebrant at her Entrance Mass.
There also was an added attraction on that day with the birth of Laura’s niece. In the air there was a mixture of emotions as everyone realized it was “farewell to Laura’ for a while, which was overshadowed by the joy of the new addition to the Gillette family.
As Laura was leaving for the airport she said: “I am very grateful for the prayers and support of my family and everyone in the Denver Community. I will be sure to keep everyone in my prayers.”
We assured her that she will be remembered in our daily prayers as she now continues on the Journey of her Dream.
