Just when one thought that employee Christmas parties were becoming a bit dull, enter the Little Sisters to regale their employees!! They really know how parties should be done! The auditorium was all decked out in glorious Christmas splendor, the tables were made festive with holiday décor, the hors d’oeuvres were plentiful, and the Christmas punch was delightful. What more could one ask??
But there was more – much more! Gifts of all shapes and sizes were lined up in front of the tables and each employee was given a raffle ticket. When their number was called, they got to go to the front and pick out their “gift of choice’’. Some winners had to work a bit harder than others as a trivia question was part of the game. Of course, the gifts were a bit bigger and everyone had fun trying to answer the Christmas trivia … who knew that Oklahoma was the last state to declare Christmas a legal holiday?? A scavenger hunt topped off the gifts and took employees throughout the decorated halls of the Home looking for clues leading to the grand prize which was a gift card from Wal-Mart!!
The grand finale was presented by the Sisters and their singing of “Angels We Have Heard on High”. Being a multi-lingual community as the Sisters are, employees enjoyed the song in a variety of languages. Mother Cornelia sang a verse in her native German, Sister Joseph led the French version, and Father Tim sang in Spanish. Employees gathered in on the “Gloria” chorus.
It was the best of times … and as we “celebrated” employees returned to our work, Christmas bags filled with thoughtful goodies – candy pieces, a beautiful book on our foundress Saint Jeanne Jugan, and other treats awaited our taking. Thank you, dear Sisters, for a wonderful Christmas party. “God bless us everyone!”
