One Saturday of the month is “Hospitality Day” at Mullen Home! And the Residents love every minute of the day. Surrounded by enthusiastic young women who share their spirit and fun, the Residents enjoy a variety of arts and crafts that keep their fingers nimble and young. But “hospitality day” – as the participants will tell you – is a “win-win” day for everyone involved!
“The Hospitality Club is one of my favorite places to go! The activities are very enjoyable. On Valentine’s Day, I got to help a ninety-year-old woman make cards for her children and children-in-law! The last time we met was just before Saint Patrick’s Day and we made cool-looking shamrock decorations and hairpieces. My absolute favorite part of the volunteer work is talking with the Residents – all their interesting stories, and wisdom they have learned over the years. And, we make new friends and share the joy of working with God in caring for the elderly.” – Margo Schumann
Jennifer and Evie Potestio said: “Hospitality comes from the heart! We go as volunteers to spend time with the Residents, but what may not be understood when walking through the doors is that we are given just as much hospitality, if not more! I went with my daughter as a way to bond, and fulfill her service hours for confirmation. What she did not expect from the experience was that she wants to do it again! The Residents have stories to tell, hearts to share … and how lucky we are to be allowed to share their lives with them.”
Hospitality Club … A Big Hit with Teens and Moms and Residents!
