On a Mission

  • January 14, 2011

by Laura Berens, St. Cloud State University

In early January, the Mullen Home was happy to welcome a group of students from St. Cloud, Minnesota, who were in Denver on a week-long mission trip. The following reflection was offered by one of the students at the conclusion of their time of service with us…

This service trip brought our group over 15 hours from home, but my experiences were worth every second. Our group spent six days serving the poor and homeless in the Denver area, and I can say without a doubt that it was a life-changing experience. Hours seem like minutes that fly by as you are giving of yourself.

My experience at the Little Sisters of the Poor has touched me in a way I could never have imagined. This is a place that gives people hope. I learned what it was like to actually hold the hand of the poor and to see the Lord in them. The true compassion that I saw everywhere was evidence of God at work in this place.
