It was Thursday, November 10, 1977 when Juanita Acevedo walked through the front doors of Mullen Home to work as a dining aide on the second floor. On Thursday, November 10, 2011 Juanita celebrated 34 years with Little Sisters of the Poor! Through the years, Juanita’s smiling face and beautiful demeanor have blessed hundreds of Residents, Sisters, Staff and Volunteers.
Juanita shares many stories from her time spent here, about so many dear Residents who have touched her heart immensely. There was one Resident from years ago, named Mary, who seemed quite dependent on Juanita. Juanita, in her exceptional and gentle way, had a way of reassuring Mary that she was safe and loved right up until her last day on this earth.
Who is Juanita Acevedo? She is the ideal depiction of a dedicated employee, whose name is well known throughout the halls of Mullen Home. I believe St. Jeanne Jugan would have been proud to know Juanita! By her commitment and loyalty she has, in a sense, wonderfully “walked in the footsteps of St. Jeanne Jugan” for the past 34 years!
Congratulations Juanita, and thank you for being you!
