While the Summer Olympics was well underway in Rio this year, the Mullen Home celebrated their version of the Summer Games/Relay Races on Tuesday, August 9 in front of the original entryway into the Home. There were many Special Guests at the Event, including Continuum Care, a group of Special Needs youth who actively participated in the Games, alongside of our Residents.
The other Special Guest was 11 year old Katie Horton, who opened the Games with singing the Star Spangled Banner. Holding the Torch was Tim Lavis, an apartment Resident, who stood proudly by Katie’s side. In honor of the USA Olympic team, Katie wore a red, white and blue leotard while performing her own created gymnastics routine to the recent Zootopia movie theme song “Try Everything!”
The Residents celebrated the festivities along with the Special Guests by participating in Games, such as Hockey/Soccer, Basketball and Rio Relay Races. Although it was a hot summer day outside the Mullen Home, it certainly did not stop anyone, young or old, from participating in a fun filled afternoon of mild competition, food, drinks and a great time!
