The national Nursing Home Week theme was a perfect fit for us here at Mullen Home. A tasty Mother-Daughter brunch with our finest china and beautiful music began the week-long festivities. It couldn’t have been more perfect in anticipation of Mother’s Day. The ladies loved it all but the men were not neglected. They enjoyed their very own barbecue.
Wednesday we welcomed a special group of volunteers, “Women Speak for Themselves,” who regaled our dear Residents with manicures and messages. They also prepared a great “picnic” for staff and Residents complete with hamburgers, hotdogs, and all the trimmings. Thursday we lifted our spirits “giving back” as we baked cookies and put on a special puppet show for our neighboring disabled community. Later in the afternoon, “big-bucks-bingo” with staff and Residents was great fun! Friday was the feast of Our Lady of Fatima and our annual May crowning by home schoolers took place after Mass in our beautiful chapel. A “Food Court” presentation of beef steaks, mushrooms, fried onions and an assorted list of tasty entrees was provided. A “petting zoo” on our wonderful lawn gave everyone a chance to get up close with farm animals and then to enjoy the releasing of doves!
And in spite of a “chilly” Saturday, the dogs came out!! Our first ever dog show complete with judges and ribbons and trophies was a real treat. Organized by our local veterinarian, the “entrance fee” provided money for an animal shelter in need. The “small world with a big heart” week ended with a dinner and music for all.
‘It’s a small world with a big heart!’
