Meet Mel and Elaine – Mullen Home’s passionate volunteer teachers of all things scientific and – for that matter – any subject that they believe the Residents will find interesting!
On the first Tuesday of every month, they set up their “teaching easel” and wow the crowd with a variety of subjects: birthday stones, Presidents of the US, flower identification, and artists around the world. On the fourth Tuesday, Mel and Elaine don their white coats and – being retired science teachers – present “lessons in biology and chemistry”!
They are quick to note that no tests or final exams are ever given – only the facts and good old conversation. As an added flavor to their “educational days” coffee and treats are often served! Thanks Mel and Elaine!
