December 12, The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, provided a wonderful introduction to a day of celebration for staff, Residents, and the Little Sisters. The morning began with a solemn mass and Eucharistic celebration highlighted by the entrance of a beautifully decorated bier of Our Lady carried by members of the Knights of Columbus, resplendent in their council uniforms. At the final blessing, in the Spanish Missionary style, roses were tossed from the chapel’s balcony showering “Juan Diego” played by one of our Residents, Ismael. As roses covered the congregation and the Knights escorted Our Lady from the chapel, the Mariachi International Band completed the ceremony with a rousing Spanish version of “Our Lady of Guadalupe.” After the ceremony, the band formed an entertaining pilgrimage through the halls making their way to the dining rooms where staff, Residents, and Sisters enjoyed their lively repertoire.
And that was just the morning! Mid afternoon gave way to the employee Christmas party planned and executed by the Little Sisters and some helpful friends. Employees enjoyed a delicious Mexican buffet, and the drawing of names for selected Christmas gifts.
