St. Jeanne Jugan’s Feast Day was a joyful occasion with the sounds of celebration echoing throughout the halls of Mullen Home! One of the activities of the day was a fill-in-the blanks game of identifying St. Jeanne Jugan sayings. The day before, posters appeared in the halls with her beautiful sayings and filled with pictures showing how those sayings related to our Home and its history. Staff members were then paired with Residents and given a sheet of her sayings with blanks to be filled in to complete the quotes. They then had to wander the hallways and look for the poster that applied. It was great fun and echoes were heard throughout: “Little very little … My little ones, never forget, etc.” and other such quotes were repeated by the players adding excitement to the race of completing their sheets before anyone else. Winners were recognized later in the afternoon when everyone gathered in the auditorium to listen to guest musician Ron Jonoick entertain with his accordion and songs reminiscent of the old days and recognizing Brittany, France – St. Jeanne Jugan’s birthplace.
One of the highlights of the day was a special “appearance” of St. Jeanne Jugan who spent time among her little ones and passed out the “daily bread” during a wonderful celebration lunch that followed a beautiful Mass.
It was a great time recounting the history, Residents and Sisters. We found that we daily live the sayings of St. Jeanne Jugan in our Home. As St. Jeanne Jugan would say, “Making the elderly happy – that is what counts!”
