A beautiful and joyous holiday season was had by all! You could feel the happiness of our Residents, staff, volunteers, and Little Sisters as you made your way through the halls. On every floor and at every turn, beautifully decorated trees enlivened the mood in preparation for the birth of Christ. Even “miniature carolers” adorned the reception area welcoming all to the warmth and good tidings of Christmas at Mullen Home.
Festivities began in earnest December 2 with our annual Christmas Sale benefiting our missions and giving everyone interested a chance to purchase some very affordable Christmas décor. Residents were kept busy from Thanksgiving Day forward making cookies and other Christmas delights. And every day making ready for Christmas day provided fun activities: Christmas chimes, cello carolers, Christmas tree decorating, hallway caroling with the Seminarians, Polynesian dancers, Christmas bingo, Good Shepherd grade school children making merry with the Residents, a Knights of Columbus Christmas party, and a trip to the Arvada Center for the play, “I’ll be Home for Christmas.” Then, the main events: the employee Christmas party on December 14 where all the staff were honored guests of the Sisters with good food served and presents of all shapes and sizes distributed!
And then, the evening of December 20, the Christmas dinner for the Residents where the dining rooms are all decked out in Christmas décor and cheer and the Little Sisters share their love and caring with each and every Resident with special gifts. The festivities were topped off by a wonderful New Year’s Eve party. Residents dressed in their finest and danced the night away with volunteers and staff members at the ready to help make a grand entrance to 2017!
A truly meaningful event during our holiday season for anyone who could help was a “blanket drive” which provided warm blankets to those in need at Saint Claire’s Ministry. How blessed we are here at Mullen Home that the spirit of love and protection that is the legacy of our dear foundress, Saint Jeanne Jugan, reigns throughout not just at the holiday season but every day of the year! “God bless us everyone.”
Fun for all – From a Merry Christmas through a Rockin’ New Year!
