Association of Jeanne Jugan (AJJ) Christmas Drive-by Caravan
In past years, attending Christmas Eve Mass at Mullen Home has become a favorite tradition. This year, due to Covid-19, another tradition has been halted. However, the Holy Spirit had another plan to honor this cherished custom by inspiring the Little Sisters of the Poor to ask their Associates to gather outside the Home in their cars with masks on Saturday, December 19 at 1 p.m. and do a drive thru Christmas greeting!
Ingeniously, a Holy Trail was devised by the Little Sisters to keep the Residents safe, comply with Covid-19 regulations, and celebrate with their Associates. Upon arrival, the AJJs called the front desk and then began their drive by celebration. As they began their drive by, Some Sisters waved through the windows, since it was a very windy day, and others greeted the AJJ’s. The sisters sang “We Wish you a Merry Christmas” as the cars processed.
As the AJJs rounded St. Joseph’s statue there came a sense of a warm Christmas Blessing from him and our Lord. Probably standing there in spirit with St. Joseph was our deceased AJJ members (Dean Willey, Valeria Jacobs, Karen Whitaker) who were called to heaven this year. Some sisters were holding a banner with Christmas wishes. One of the Sisters played the guitar while the other Sisters sang. Each Sister had her duty of passing gifts through the windows while others served delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows melting in the heat of the liquid brown drink. Even though we could not see our Sister Mary Magdalena, who recently entered into heaven, her happy spirit was sensed with the other Sisters. Once again, the Little Sisters displayed their charism of hospitality and joyfulness. Merci beaucoup! Thank you, God for blessing us one and all!
